Our Review of the Saugatuck Dune Ride

The Saugatuck Dune Ride is an exhilarating tour through stunning sand dunes filled with beautiful views. We highly recommend it to everyone visiting Southwest Michigan! It is a family-friendly activity that both kids and adults love.

DATES OF OPERATION

The Saugatuck Dune Ride's 2024 season opened May 4th and will close October 20th.  For updates on the 2025 season, click here.

TICKETS

We highly recommend buying tickets online ahead of time, especially if you are with a large group.  This is a popular attraction, and they do sell out in the summer. They open up ticket sales daily, two weeks ahead of time.  They also open up some time slots the morning prior. One and two-year-olds are allowed on the ride for no charge as they are counted as a lap sit.

HISTORY

The Saugatuck Dune Rides date back to 1954 when Ron Jousma came home from the Army and decided that Saugatuck needed something similar to the Silver Lake Dune Rides.  He bought the present dune property next to Goshorn Lake and turned his 1942 Ford convertible into a dune buggy.  For the complete history, click here.

OUR REVIEWS

Becky, age 70:  "I think it's a great family activity to do in southwest Michigan. I get excited to watch the reaction of the children going on the ride for the first time. I like the history taught during the ride about how the little town of Singapore is buried underneath the dunes. Throughout the years, wherever we stayed in Michigan, we would be sure to stop in Saugatuck for lunch and take the ride. I have photos of older generations in my family taking this ride!"

Mark, age 65: “They did a great job; it was very entertaining. The employees were very nice, and the fee wasn’t bad for what you get. It was enjoyable!”

Melissa, age 44: "I've been going on the Saugatuck Dune Ride about once a year for the last twenty years and it never gets old!  The drivers are all charismatic and love what they do!  My favorite part is stopping at the top of the dune to get some fantastic photos!"

Mike, age 45: "I never miss a chance to go on the Saugatuck Dune Ride and I've been on it over 35 times! It was the highlight of my Michigan vacations as a child, and now I love sharing it with my own kids. I highly recommend it for both kids and adults as it is such a unique and fun adventure, and the views are amazing!"

Emily, age 32:  The Saugatuck Dune Rides are a fun and entertaining way to see the sights, hear some great jokes, and learn fascinating local history—like the story of the lost city of Singapore hidden beneath the dunes."

Mackenzie, age 17: "Saugatuck Dune Rides are very memorable, no matter who you go with.  There are some really funny jokes and great facts about the area."

Ella, age 15: "My favorite part of the dune ride is how fast we go down the large dune hills, I love the feeling of the wind in my hair and the adrenaline rush when flying down.  It's like a roller coaster. "
