Fall is grape harvest season, making it a great time to visit South Haven’s wineries. Head to Cogdal Vineyards or Warner Vineyards (Paw Paw) to enjoy a glass of locally produced wine while taking in the fall views. Warner Vineyards, 12 Corners, and Gravity all have tasting rooms downtown South Haven, so stop in for some flights to complete your wine tasting experience. Some wineries even offer seasonal wines or host harvest-themed events. Read about more winery tour options here.
While summer is peak boating season, you can still enjoy a relaxing boat tour on Lake Michigan in the fall. Many tour operators offer scenic boat rides during autumn, where you can see the fall colors from the water. Try an on-water experience with the Michigan Maritime Museum. A sunset cruise is especially beautiful with the vibrant fall sky and colorful leaves on the shore.

Fall wouldn’t be complete without enjoying Michigan’s famous apple cider and donuts. Visit a local farm or attend a fall festival where you can warm up with fresh cider and hot donuts. Overhiser Orchards offer these treats as part of their fall activities. Check out Crane's Pie Pantry for more local baked goods.
Fall is a great time for hiking as the weather cools down and the crowds thin out. Van Buren State Park and nearby Saugatuck Dunes State Park offer scenic trails that wind through sand dunes and forests, with views of Lake Michigan. Additionally, the Saugatuck Dune Ride (see our review here!) is open through October 20th. The cooler weather makes these hikes more enjoyable, and you’ll get to experience the beauty of the fall season.
On cooler fall days, take some time to explore the Michigan Maritime Museum, which highlights the rich history of South Haven as a harbor town. The museum offers exhibits on shipbuilding, Great Lakes navigation, and maritime history. During fall, you may also be able to take a ride on one of their historic vessels.
Watch a movie at the historic charming Michigan Theater downtown South Haven. Some scary new releases will get you in the mood for the Halloween season.
Fall brings a cozy atmosphere to the local shops and cafes. Stroll through the downtown area, shop for seasonal items, and grab a cup of hot cider or coffee from one of the local cafes. Many restaurants also offer seasonal dishes featuring local fall ingredients like apples and pumpkins.
